Meta Acquires Conductor, the Startup That Runs Coding Agents Side by Side

Meta has acquired Conductor, a young artificial intelligence startup whose software lets developers run several coding agents at once, each working on a separate part of a project in its own workspace. Meta confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch but declined to comment further, and the financial terms were not disclosed. The deal was first reported by Axios, and Conductor announced it on its own blog on Wednesday.

OpenAI announced on Wednesday, November 4, that it will acquire Pierre Computer Company, a low-profile developer tools startup whose software already runs inside Codex, its AI coding platform. The financial terms were not disclosed. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and the two companies will remain separate and independent until it closes.

A Trojanized Claude Code Extension Planted an SSH Backdoor on Up to 5,000 Cursor Machines

Developers who use the Cursor code editor got a security warning that demands immediate attention this week. A trojanized version of Anthropic's Claude Code extension was distributed through Cursor's own extension marketplace as a routine update, and it tried to plant a persistent SSH backdoor on the machines that installed it. Cursor says at most 5,000 users received the malicious build during an exposure window of about eleven hours on October 29, from roughly 2:27 a.m. to 1:35 p.m. Pacific Time.

GitHub Says Agents Now Start More Than 40 Percent of Pull Requests

For a growing share of the world's software, the first draft no longer comes from a person typing at a keyboard. GitHub's annual Octoverse report, published on October 28, says that by September 2026 developers started more than 40 percent of pull requests with a coding agent's first draft, up from 17 percent in March. That is 110 million agent-started pull requests in September alone, about six times March's volume.

Meta Releases Muse Spark Open, an 816-Billion-Parameter Model That Runs on Two Mac Studios

Cartoon illustration of two desktop computers linked by glowing cables, jointly holding a sparkling network of colorful nodes shaped like a brain.

Meta released Muse Spark Open on Thursday, October 15, calling it the most capable United States open-weight model to date. Unlike a closed system that stays behind a company API, an open-weight release lets developers download the trained parameters, adapt the model, and run it on their own hardware. Meta is aiming this one squarely at coding and agentic work: long, multi-step software tasks that require reasoning, tool use, and sustained context rather than a single quick answer.

Google Is Testing "Carbon," a Gemini 4 Model That Feels Like Anthropic's Best at Coding

Google's race to catch up in AI-assisted coding may have a new contender — and it is not the model everyone is waiting for. Business Insider reported this week that Google employees are internally testing a Gemini 4 variant codenamed Carbon, and early feedback suggests it could be the strongest coding model the company has built.
