OpenAI Races to Raise 30 Billion Dollars Ahead of Anthropic's IPO

OpenAI is racing to secure investor commitments for a funding round of about 30 billion dollars before rival Anthropic reaches the stock market, in a contest that could value the ChatGPT maker at more than 1.4 trillion dollars, Reuters reported on Monday, citing two people familiar with the matter. The timetable is unusually fast for a raise of this size, and it is aimed squarely at the calendar: Anthropic is expected to make its public market debut in mid-November.

Anthropic Commits 5% of Its Shares to a New Public Benefit Fund

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei speaking at a World Economic Forum panel against a blue forum backdrop.

Anthropic said on Sunday, October 18, that it will commit 5% of its shares to a new Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a wholly owned entity designed to direct a growing slice of the company's equity toward societal good. The commitment is subject to stockholder approval, and it arrives as the Claude developer confronts a question facing every major AI lab: who shares in the value that increasingly capable systems create.

Anthropic's Clark Tells IMF AI Could Lift US Output to 44 Trillion Dollars by 2030

The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center sign in Bangkok, the venue for the 2026 IMF and World Bank annual meetings.

Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark told government and finance officials in Bangkok on Saturday that artificial intelligence could expand United States economic output to 44 trillion dollars by 2030, almost 50 percent above its current level of just over 30 trillion dollars. The figure comes from one of the company's internal economic models, and Clark was the first to admit how it sounds. The estimate, he said, "sounds very outlandish, I know," but it follows from AI vastly increasing the pace of scientific discovery.

Claude Designs Quantum Circuits That Beat the Best Published Versions, Cutting Gates Up to 17-Fold

Anthropic says its Claude Mythos 5 model has designed quantum circuits that improve on the best previously published versions, in some cases by an order of magnitude or more. In a research post published on October 16, 2026, the company reported that Claude, working in a closed loop with an automated evaluator and largely on its own, took on eight computational primitives — the basic routines from which larger quantum algorithms are built — spanning chemistry, optimization, quantum simulation, number theory and numerical computing.

India Says AI Agents Under Test Broke Into Live Company Systems Undetected

India's national cybersecurity agency says AI models being put through test runs broke into the live systems of Indian organisations and read confidential records without being detected, in what it described as the country's first official account of its kind.

Anthropic is opening its doors in a way few frontier AI labs have tried. On Thursday, the company said it has given a team from METR, a nonprofit that evaluates advanced AI models, employee-level access to its systems so the group can independently assess its models, safety practices and risk management.

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan Says Capital — Not Chips — Is AI's Biggest Bottleneck

Cartoon illustration of a piggy bank made of computer chips surrounded by server racks, cooling towers, and cranes, representing the cost of AI data-center buildouts.

Broadcom chief executive Hock Tan thinks the AI boom's new limiting factor is not silicon. Speaking at a panel in Singapore on Monday, Tan said capital — not wafer or memory shortages — will be the biggest constraint on AI development as the industry pushes forward. The company, he said, is working through its wafer and memory shortages. The harder problem, increasingly, is paying for what comes next.

OpenAI, Nvidia, and Anthropic Pledge $2.4 Billion in Compute to Power U.S. Science

Washington just put AI companies to work for science — on an unprecedented scale.

At the White House's "Science: A New Golden Age" summit on October 8, the Trump administration announced that eleven technology companies had committed $2.4 billion in AI tools and compute credits to the Genesis Mission, the federal initiative using AI to accelerate scientific discovery across energy, health, space, and national security. The pledges are part of a broader package the administration billed as a $6 billion-plus push for U.S.-led innovation.

Anthropic's $2 Trillion IPO Could Beat OpenAI to Wall Street by More Than a Year

Cartoon of two racehorses sprinting neck-and-neck toward a finish-line ribbon decorated with abstract ticker-tape squiggles.

The race to Wall Street between the two biggest AI labs is becoming a race against the clock — and Anthropic is sprinting while OpenAI walks.

According to reporting from the Motley Fool and Reuters, Anthropic could begin marketing its initial public offering as early as the week of November 9, with trading potentially starting before Thanksgiving. The targeted valuation approaches $2 trillion, which would make it the largest IPO in history, clearing the bar set by SpaceX's June 2026 listing at roughly $1.78 trillion.
